Steph’s Story

Why did you decide to find a coach?

I found myself ‘always the bridesmaid and never the bride’ at several final-stage job interviews. I needed someone to objectively analyse what I was doing in my career and give me pragmatic advice about what’s next, which could only be from professional coaching. I felt like I was doing everything right but I just couldn’t land my next role. That’s where Alex came in.

What were you feeling about your work and about yourself that you wanted to change?

At the time, all I knew was I had to move on. I never felt like I belonged at my workplace but I wasn’t aware of it - let alone why. Everything felt like an uphill struggle and I’d dismiss this as part of the ‘good fight’ of getting work off the ground. I didn’t know it at the time, but it was making me really unhappy. All I knew was I needed a change.

How easy/hard did you find doing ‘the process’, what was your favourite part and what did you learn about yourself?

Alex makes the process really accessible and easy - ensures you know where you’re headed and what’s next. My favourite part of the process is watching the science-backed inputs in the program come out the other end as relevant, work-applicable outcomes. He’s immensely embedded in the world of psychology so can speak to the profound reasons of why we think, react and behave the way we do.

I also really appreciated how Alex gave me tools to cope with outgrowing my current role, as well as manage a workplace that was simply misaligned to my values. By helping me create a healthy relationship with my current role it ensured I was able to focus on what I needed to look for in a new role and organisation.

How has coaching changed your levels of clarity and confidence about your career?

Alex enabled me to confidently meet strangers across the industry and present myself in a way that was more authentic and aligned to my beliefs. Not only was I able to connect meaningfully with like-minded hiring managers, but I’m happy to say as a result of Alex’s program, I was immensely match-fit for rapid-fire questions, smash that final-stage job interview, and land that dream job.

How has coaching changed the way you feel about your capabilities and about yourself?

Coaching helped me objectively understand myself. After a lot of denial, Alex challenged me to realise that what I was doing at work was coming at the cost of my health. As soon as I was able to understand and change this, my health improved drastically. That’s only one of many things that Alex was able to help me understand about myself and make a real change.

What would you say to anyone who is considering coaching with Alex but not sure if they should do it?

I wish everyone could go through Alex’s program so they can understand themselves better, have better work relationships and a more fulfilling career. It’s also so valuable even if you’re already confident about where you’re headed in your career, but if you need assurances or you’re having trouble - having Alex in your corner is a competitive advantage and it will pay off. Don’t hesitate - go for it.
