Sabrina’s Story
Why did you decide to find a coach? - What were you feeling about your work and about yourself, that you wanted to change?
I wanted to better understand myself and what career path was going to be best for me to pursue. I had feelings of self-doubt about my current direction, not knowing if this was what I was truly meant to do. I wanted clarity, so that I could make decisions not based on emotion, but on reason.
How easy/hard did you find doing ‘the process’, what was your favourite part and what did you learn about yourself?
The course was an enlightening experience, not what I had expected. It was easy to fit into my current schedule and I was excited for each new session. Alex really makes you feel heard and understood.
My favourite parts were the ones that challenged me the most. My fears and schemas, and personality were confronting sessions that I took great value from. I learned some hard truths about myself that I had either been in denial about, or just had a lack of understanding about. Learning that I have been set on a specific pathway made me realise why I have made so many decisions in my life, or why I felt a certain way.
I learned that I have been holding expectations of others according to a secret rule book that I hadn’t shared with anyone…I learned that there are aspects of who I am that I need to leverage, and some I need to pull back on or be aware of. You are simply unable to change something about yourself until you understand it.
How has coaching changed your levels of clarity and confidence about your career?
It’s allowed me review my current trajectory and revaluate it. Knowing what I know now, my needs, values, strengths, shadows, personality, etc, I feel like I have met an entirely new ‘me’. One that I have been yearning to know and understand for quite some time. I feel as though I know what areas are going to interest me within marketing, what I will succeed at, and what areas are just not for me.
How has coaching changed the way you feel about your capabilities and about yourself?
Coaching has taught me that I do not need to meet my needs through using other people as a vessel, rather I can meet those needs myself. The ball is in my own court, and I feel empowered and confident now that I know I hold the cards to my own future and that it doesn’t depend on an expectation of others. It made me realise I have more to offer in my career and that I am 100% in charge of my own growth.
What would you say to anyone who is considering coaching with Alex but not sure if they should do it?
Well, first and foremost, learning these things about yourself can be confronting, but nothing great comes from sitting in your comfort zone. Looking back at your life and finding the answers to why you are where you are, and who you are, is incredible. But knowing you can change the path you’ve set for yourself, is liberating.
If you’ve hit a glass ceiling, feel suffocated or stuck, or simply just want clarity on your career path, this is the only course you should be doing. Alex is tremendously skilled at what he does, and you simply can’t put a price on knowing yourself.
